Make Your Own Christmas Incense {how to}

I love the smell of Christmastime!  But really, who doesn’t!?!  The smell of a fresh cut tree, cinnamon and spice sparks many merry memories for so many people – myself included with 2 hands up!

Save your tree trimmings to make your own natural room freshener.  It is really so easy to do!

We bought our tree a couple weeks ago, the scent of the pine tree is still there – but no where as strong as when we first got the tree.  So this weekend while cleaning – I took a few twigs from it, added a cinnamon stick to half a pot of water and about 2 table spoons of cooking oil.  I let the pot simmer all day and kept an eye on the water level.  Cleaning has never been so much fun with aroma of pine/cinnamon notes floating through the house!  If you like, you can also add an orange slice or a couple drops of orange essential oil.

I hope you enjoyed this Treats by Tanya and have a very Merry Christmas!

    What a great idea! I’ve done this before with just cinnamon sticks, but I love the idea about adding a pine branch and orange essential oil. I’m definitely going to do this for Christmas Eve at my house! Will any kind of cooking oil work?

      Thanks and yes! I used grape seed oil just because that’s what I had on hand, but any kind of oil will keep the branches from sticking to the pan 😀

    This seems like it is really easy to make. I know my husband loves the smell of pine at Christmas time. I will have to try this Christmas Day. I love when things smell up the house.

    Oh my goodness – I LOVE this! I love the smell of pine but have never thought of this before. My husband and I have 12-1/2 acres of woods and there are many, many pine trees available to us. Guess what I’m doing tomorrow morning? I’m cutting pines needles for my pot! Thanks for the idea!!

    Now, this is really interesting. My family and I love to use incense and I think it will be great to actually make one for a change.

    Christmas or not, I have been meaning to try something like this. Synthetic fragrances get the best of my allergies, so I always use natural scents in the home. Personally, I think they smell much better, too.
